About the technology

The Self-Supporting Runflat (SSR) technology is based on a self-supporting reinforced sidewall. When there is a puncture, the sidewall is prevented from being crushed between the rim and the ground, as well as the tyre from slipping off the rim, which can make it impossible to fit a spare tyre. 

An SSR tyre not only takes the danger and inconvenience out of punctures, it also helps with fuel efficiency and frees up interior space in your vehicle. 

With four SSR tyres fitted you will not need to carry a spare tyre, which means less weight and improved fuel efficiency as result. It also adds up to 80 litres of free space in the boot.

At Continental, we highly recommend fitment on all four wheels and once the SSR tyre has been damaged, a new one needs to be fitted. 

Technical requirements:

  • Tyre Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) essential
  • Electronic Stability Control (ESC) recommended

Technical details

An SSR tyre has a reinforced sidewall that prevents it from being flattened and ensures the driver can continue driving for up to 50 miles at a maximum speed of 50 mph.
