Vision Zero

Vision Zero World: The countdown has begun

How Continental is reshaping the future of daily driving

Continental Tyres Superbrand 2016

Continental has been a pioneer in road safety for more than 140 years. Driver safety has been - and always will be - at the heart of our company ethos.

Today, we take our unrivalled driver safety heritage to the next level, with our new commitment to you: Vision Zero.

As one of the biggest driver safety experts in the world, Continental has set itself an ambitious goal to be reached in three successive stages: Evolving from best in braking to zero fatalities, zero injuries and zero accidents. And for good reasons. Only Continental knows the entire braking process in every detail – from pedal to tyre.

Evolving from best in braking to zero fatalities, zero injuries and zero crashes.

Road safety begins where the tyres touch the ground. Renowned for outstanding tyre expertise, Continental has been improving global road safety for over a century. It's our mission to inform as many drivers as possible about the safety benefits of using high-tech tyres which are inflated to the correct pressure, and with adequate tread depth.

Apart from its innovative tyre products, the Continental Automotive Group has already developed game-changing safety technologies that can be found in most of today's modern cars: ABS, ESC and EBA, to name just a few. And this is only the beginning. With the on-going rise and evolution of the intelligent car, there is more potential than ever to reach Vision Zero.

Continental is proud to provide holistic expertise in the key technologies for greater road safety, paving the way to Vision Zero.

Continental's Vision Zero Live events

Continental’s Vision Zero Live events offers an invaluable insight into current and future driver safety technology

Summer / Autumn 2017 saw Continental present a series of Vision Zero Live events in locations across the UK and Ireland, including Co. Kildare. These have proved to be an unqualified success, with both drivers and tyre retailers alike introduced to Continental’s wide range of electronic automotive safety technology solutions. Participants have also gained a first hand experience (as both a driver and passenger) of how the quality of a tyre positively or negatively affects driving.

Mercedes-Benz World

Winter Tyre Safety at Mercedes-Benz World

Compared with the rest of the year, UK drivers are six times more likely to have an accident during the winter months, with the numbers rising further when snow and ice occur and add an extra hazard. With this in mind, Continental regularly work with Mercedes-Benz World to provide a free driving experience to their customers. Drivers can experience how two identical cars - differentiated only by their tyres - behave on a simulated icy track. One car is fitted with Continental summer tyres and the other with Continental winter tyres, providing first-hand experience with the significant difference in stopping distance.

#STOPTHECRASH at London Motor Show

Four major automotive names joined forces at the London Motor Show as part of the Global NCAP #STOPTHECRASH partnership. The aim was to ensure that consumers considering buying a new car know the life-saving questions they need to ask their dealer before making their choice, namely:

1. What Euro NCAP test rating does this car have?

2. Is Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB) fitted to this car - and is it standard?

3. What else should I do to maximise the safety protection offered by this car?

The partnership, consisting of Thatcham Research, Bosch, Continental and ZF TRW, also demonstrated AEB to over 1,000 members of the public. We also provided over 200 tyre safety demonstrations to highlight how critical good tyre care is to driver safety.

Continental's Emergency Brake Assist (EBA)

Continental's forward-looking Emergency Brake Assist (EBA) activates an automatic braking system if the driver does not respond appropriately, such as if their vehicle comes within a dangerous distance of a preceding vehicle. As a result, EBA can considerably reduce stopping distance, in line with Continental's Vision Zero initiative.
