This summer, some of the best cyclists in the world will converge on the streets of London to take part in a one-day bike race like no other.
Departing from Horse Guards Parade, St James’s Park in central London, the peloton rolled through south-west London, towards the lush greenery of Richmond Park, where the first Continental Tyres Sprint challenge awaited. The riders then continued through the middle of Kingston upon Thames, before crossing the River Thames at Hampton Court Bridge and into Surrey...
We were there to showcase our BlackChili technology, that enables our car and bicycle tyres to provide the ultimate grip. We had a presence at the Prudential RideLondon Cycling show and Green Park. It was a great turn out, with both cyclists and spectators able to take part in all of our activations, including a virtual ride with Geraint Thomas.
We can’t wait to see what next year brings! Here's a selection of event photos and videos.
The professional cyclists will depart from Horse Guards Parade, St James’s Park in central London. Leaving behind the legendary landmarks of Whitehall and Buckingham Palace, they’ll be rolling through south-west London towards the lush greenery of Richmond Park. The route then continues through the middle of Kingston upon Thames, before crossing the River Thames at Hampton Court Bridge and into Surrey.
Next, the riders zip through Walton-on-Thames, Weybridge and Ripley before reaching the first uphill climb at Staple Lane. The reward at the summit will be a spectacular view of the Surrey countryside.
Now in the Surrey Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, the riders progress towards the hilly circuits located in Dorking that will make up 50 miles of the action. After Abinger Hammer and Westcott.
Then the group will veer south to Coldharbour; awaiting them is Leith Hill. Once riders have conquered this epic peak, they’ll wind back through Dorking for a second Sprint, before tackling a pair of circuits through Westhumble to Ranmore Common.
Afterwards, it’s a third Sprint through Dorking. With only 32 miles remaining, the cyclists return to London via Leatherhead, Oxshott and Esher.
Entering London via Kingston upon Thames, the closing stages of the race bring the competitors through Raynes Park and Wimbledon. There’ll be a final chance to win points in a Sprint at Wimbledon Village, then it’s on to Putney Bridge over the River Thames. The race then stretches along the banks of the Thames through to Chelsea and Westminster, with one last push up The Mall towards Buckingham Palace and the cheering fans at the finish line.
Hearing about Black Chili for the first time, you might think that we have gone into the business of food. But this isn’t grandma’s secret recipe for a nourishing bowl of chilli; this is a revolutionary tyre tread compound, highly prized by cyclists and motorists alike. That’s because our patented Black Chili compound has unbeatable grip, speed and durability, equating to a road performance that’s not only dependable but also… rather spicy.
